You Matter

When you love the work you do and the people you do it with, you matter.

When you are so gracious and generous and aware that you think of other people before yourself, you matter.

When you leave the world a better place than you found it, you matter.

When you continue to raise the bar on what you do and how you do it, you matter.

When you teach and forgive and teach more before you rush to judge and demean, you matter.

When you touch the people in your life through your actions (and your words), you matter.

When kids grow up wanting to be you, you matter.

When you see the world as it is, but insist on making it more like it could be, you matter.

When you inspire a Nobel prize winner or a slum dweller, you matter.

When the room brightens when you walk in, you matter.

And when the legacy you leave behind lasts for hours, days or a lifetime, you matter.

The Why and How of Cub Scouting

As parents, we want our children to excel. We want them to be self-reliant, dependable, and caring individuals. Well, Scouting has the same goals! And they have been doing it for a long, long time. Scouting has been around since 1910. During this time they’ve developed a system of activities and programs designed to not only be fun, but also act as a positive influence on our children.

Scouting has had a profound effect on my life and I passionately believe that it is more than a boy’s club. Scouting is a world wide movement with the ultimate goal of developing the leaders of tomorrow. I know of no other organization that does such a thorough and effective job of molding the “whole” boy into a responsible young man.

The Scouting program has been the premier youth movement for 100 years. The reason for this profound success lies solidly on the Aims, Purposes and Methods of Scouting. Although these have been rephrased over the years, they are essentially the same tools that Baden-Powell laid out in the first edition of “Scouting for Boys”.

Aims:

The aims of Cub Scouts are precisely the same as the aims of the Scouting Movement as a whole: to Develop Character, Citizenship and Personal Fitness.

Purposes:

Character Development
Spiritual Growth
Good Citizenship
Sportsmanship and Fitness
Family Understanding
Respectful Relationships
Personal Achievement
Friendly Service
Fun and Adventure
Preparation for Boy Scouts

Methods:

Living the Ideals
Belonging to a Den
Using Advancement
Involving Family and Home
Participating in Activities
Serving Neighborhood and Community
Wearing the Uniform
Making Character Connections

At Cub Pack 3092, we base our program on the Aims, Purposes and Methods. In practical application, the Methods are what we use to deliver the Aims and Purposes to the boys, while they think they are just having a good time!

The Cub Scout program, particularly in the early years, is not designed for parents to drop-off before an activity and pick-up after it is over. The program is designed for parents to be active and interactive with their son. The program is designed to create a bond between parents and sons while consciously causing them to have discussions, experiences, and interactions that might not have otherwise taken place in their relationship together. Said in slightly a different way, a well run program should be exciting and fun for both the boys and the parents while simultaneously helping parents prepare their boys to be responsible, respectful, and successful adults.

If you are currently a member of the Pack, I am so glad to have you involved. If you are visiting this webpage and considering joining, I hope you will visit us at an upcoming Pack event. If you have any questions on Pack 3092 or Cub Scouting, please do not hesitate to contact me at cubmaster@pack3092.com.
